Making the magic, one french fry at a time.

So I decided to change the name of my blog, seeming it was a little more appropriate now that I know how much I love my job :) So this past weekend I had my on the job training. Day one (friday) is a littl blurry due to me being so exhausted ;) But we met our trainers, got our costumes, and (well my group) just kinda wandered and made our way over to Hungry Bear. I was super happy that I had Natasha as my trainer!! She's awesome :) And my other two girls Katie and Corina are awesome as well!! :) But friday was just an intro to the area, what we will be doing, learning safety stuff, and all that jazz. The fun came saturday :) I started out as a back of house worker (in the kitchen). I was one of the people that set the food up on the plates and trays. It's not as easy as it looks :) There's lots of food, receipt reading which gets confusing, and when it gets crazy, there's a billion trays flying at you needing food. It's fun but gets crazy :) But I loved it!!

Sunday was my first day as a hostess. I was all excited because I love wearing that costume and my big comfy coat!! Natasha taught me how to open the place, and I started out on drinks. Which isn't the best since I can never seem to get the perfect amount of soda and I end up spilling it on my hands :) My favorite thing to do as a host is work at the window. That's where I get to interact with the guests and make their experience more magical :) Plus I love meeting people, and talking! So it works out well for me :) I only got to do that for awhile, but I already feel like I love it. I love being able to see a little girl smile when I call her a Princess, and hear two boys talk about how much they love Space Mountain. It's an amazing feeling being able to just talk to a family about their trip, and be able to hopefully touch their hearts in a small way. I truly love my job :)

On a side note, being thrown into the work world, and being on my feet all day every day has me exhausted. I'm glad a have a few recovery days to rest and SLEEP before going back, but I miss work so much already!! :)

Today at Disneyland....

I had my first new CM to seasoned (a nicer word for old) CM experience!! Manny and I went for the morning and before we left we went to Gibson Girl to get some delicious peppermint stick ice cream. I was already all giddy using my CM ID for getting in the park, discounts, blah blah blah. So I handed the CM my ID and he asked if I was here for my mix-in party (a day when CMs come into the park with family and guests are also in the park, as opposed to the private parties where it's only CMs and their families) and I obviously wasn't but I knew what he was talking about and it was so exciting!! I felt like I knew a secret language i've always wanted to know :) So I was all happy about that. So the earlier part of the day was fun too!! I'm loving all the Christmas stuff! It was so crowded we only managed to get on two rides (almost 3, but poor Roger Rabbit had to go save Jessica from the weasles, so the ride was temporarily down until he returned!). We were exhausted and ready to get out of the craziness by early afternoon. I'm not sure how I feel about starting my training on a super busy weekend, but hey it will be nice to be on the other side of the crowds for once :)

Disney Traditions

Okay so i've been chatting with another Cast Member blogger which has been super helpful with figuring out my blogging boundaries :) So since she asked i'll go more into detail about my Traditions class, my Welcome to class, and my training. So here goes:

We all arrived and signed in around 7:30 (yawwwn!). I was way too excited to be tired. We got our stucky temp name tages (mine which kept sticking and ripping out my hair) and all sat in the big theater type room. We met our awesome trainers, watched some "Welcome to Disney" videos, and split up into smaller groups. I was the Mulan group who was led by a lady who was very good friends with Mulan a few years back ;) So in our smaller groups we went into a huge office building, climbed a million flights of stairs, and got settled in our classroom with the comfy chairs (my favorite part!). We learned some magic, how to use our pixie dust, and everything that it takes to be an amazing Cast Member :) We watched videos (my goodness I never realized that Disney owns EVERYTHING) and played a few games which was really fun! Then came our little break. All the break rooms in the office building are called pantries and are wonderfully equipt with nice fridges, microwaves, coffe makers, vending machines, and a huge flat screen TV! After our break was over, we went on our tour of Disneyland park. It was also the first time i had seen the park in full Christmas swing which was spectacular! :) We also got to tour backstage a little ;) We just walked around with our awesome headsets (so our trainer could talk to us without having to yell) and pretty much just took in our surroundings. I was able to see the park in a completely different view than I usually see it :) It felt even more like home! It was my favorite part of the day. After our tour was our lunch break. I learned that the CM cafeteria serves delicious pizza!! I can't wait to have more pizza :) Lunch was over (my mood being a little spoiled over Manny's phone being lame) and we headed back up to our classroom. We watched more videos, learned more magic, and went back down to the big theater with everyone else. There we were split up into groups again by our jobs, and given information about our Welcome to class. We rejoined again as a big group, and then it was the "celebrate" part of the class!! We were all pretty anxious to get our nametags!! Mickey came out of.nowhere (which made everyone either scream, cry, or get all giddy) and we lined up to get our ID's, nametags, and a high five from Mickey. Then the day was over, and Shelby was ready for a long nap :)

I really had a great time :) It was a little overwhelming, but it was the first step to making mine, and hopefully a million other people's dreams come true!

Traditions and Welcome to Foods

So on Saturday I had my first official day of work. When you work at Disney, the first thing you do is called Traditions. I won't go into detail, but it was basically classes, info, and tons of fun :) We got our ID's and nametags too! So then yesterday was my Welcome to Foods class. Which was everyone broken up into smaller groups, more classes, and some basic training. It was cold, boring, and I was tired but I made some awesome new friends (Flavia and Caroline are from Brazil!!) and had lots of fun :) We got fitted for our shoes, picked up our shoes, and got our schedules for our on the job training and our first week of work :) I luckily have this week off, and start my training at Hungry Bear (by Splash Mountain) on Friday!! That makes for one happy Shelby :)

A pound of ground turkey

Can of cream of mushroom soup

Shredded cheddar

Tator tots

Brown the meat and spread it out in a baking dish. Spread the soup, cheese, and then place tator tots on top. Bake according to the tator tots packaging.

Knott's Berry Farm

Well what can I say. It's not Disneyland. It was overpriced, cheesey, and dirty. I'm so glad we got in for free!! We did have a lot of fun though!! The rides were fun and I went on the scariest roller coaster i've ever been on! We could only handle it for a few hours so we went home, napped, and decided to get some Thanksgiving shopping out of the way. Well i'm exhausted. Here are some pictures of our day :)

Christmas already?

Christmas is my favorite time to go to Disneyland. The lights, the music, the decorations; it's all so magical. And luckily for me (being only the beginning of November) they have already started to decorate! Which means that I can start decorating my apartment a little ;) Although the Holiday season doesn't officially start until the 14th, everything is already so jolly, which makes me super happy! And it's the perfect time to start working. I couldn't be happier that I'll be working at the Happiest Place on Earth!! Now if only I could get into entertainment. Well tomorrow, little brother and his friends & Manny and I, will go watch the Christmas fireworks for the first time this season! It's probably my favorite part of the holidays. And it's going to make me even more excited for our Disney World trip next Christmas!! :) Well, Manny and I are sitting at Barnes & Nobles (since we have no internet) and he is almost done with his Marine courses. Pictures from tomorrow night's fireworks will be uploaded soon!

Halloween Screams

For those of you who missed the Halloween party, here is a sneak peak of the amazing fireworks.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Every year at Halloween time, Disneyland throws a Halloween party (for an extra fee of course). Manny and I decided to try it out this year, so earlier in october we dressed up (well I did) and headed to an early halloween. This was our first time so we had no idea what to expect. All we knew was a lot of candy! We got there early and watched the majority of the people leave as the park closed for the party. We really had a blast! The lines were short, we got a ton of candy, and we got to spend time with characters we don't see. We came home that night with a butt-load of candy, carrots, and sliced apples. It was so worth every penny. We wanted to go again, but because of the price we knew we were'nt able to. Hence Mickey's Halloween Party part 2. So it's Halloween night, Manny is working and i'm chilling on the couch in my PJ's on MouseWait. I see a post about someone who can't go to the party that night because she wasn't feeling well, and wanted to give away the tickets. I didn't think I could go get them in time, but no one could use them. After trying to contact her, and finally succeeding, Manny came home and we rushed to find costumes and get ready! We went and met up with the amazing MWer's husband, and were able to go to the party that night. We were SO happy and grateful for their kindness and we had a great Halloween night.

Wet socks and a clean apartment

Since Manny and I missed the majority of the Christmas day parade filming the other day, we figured we would stick out the rain and try to see what they would be filming yesterday. Bad idea. Which is really saying something coming from me. Within the first few minutes of being at the happiest place on earth, my lack of rain-proof shoes had gotten the best of me. We were there for maybe an hour before my two pairs of socks, boots, and bottoms of my leggings were completely soaked. Oh and not to mention so were the rest of our clothes. We decided to do a few Fantasyland rides and call it a day. Dumbo isn't the best ride to be on in the rain. So we ditched the land, crawled into our PJ's, and did some much needed house cleaning. Now our apartment is clean and de-cluttered, and Manny and I are happy about our hard work. Is it Christmas yet?

Boundaries

They suck. But i'm grateful that I have MouseWait to remind me that Disneyland needs all the magic preserved, no matter what your job is. And if I spill that magic, I could get into a lot of trouble. So I will not be blogging about life as a cast member. But instead just about life in general. Mostly our Disney experiences ;) Which are a lot, since we live five minutes away. So yeah. Here goes nothing :)
